It is a good question. This expression has to do with the context.

If you translate it directly you will say ‘aan die ander hand’, but that will only mean that something is literally on the other hand.

If you use ‘aan die ander kant’ it can mean on the other side literally or the other side of the argument figuratively. So ‘aan die ander kant’ is related to the context that you are using it in.

Ek het vraag. doesn’t aan die ander kant? mean on the other side? Why does it say it means on the other hand? Whouldn’t that be aan die ander hand?
