Alisha: This is Must-Know Afrikaans Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 17. In this lesson you'll learn some popular euphemisms.
Alisha: These euphemisms can be used when you want to express something without saying it directly.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:

Dewan: kort voor lank
Dewan: nie die skerpste potlood in die pakkie nie
Dewan: die emmer skop
Alisha: Dewan, what's our first expression?
Dewan: slim vang sy baas
Alisha: This literally means "smart catches his boss." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "sometimes being too clever can trip you up."
