Alisha: This is Must-Know Afrikaans Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 15. In this lesson you'll learn Funny Idioms.
Alisha: These idioms are really funny and might seem very strange to anyone who does not speak Afrikaans. Sadly some of these older idioms are no longer being used by young people.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Alisha: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Dewan: hang aan 'n tak
Dewan: nes 'n apie op 'n stokkie
Dewan: alle grappies op 'n stokkie
Dewan: 'n hond uit 'n bos gesels
Alisha: Dewan, what's our first expression?
Dewan: hang aan 'n tak
Alisha: This literally means "hang onto a branch." But, when it's used as a slang expression, it means "hang on."
